Raghav Raj Singh, a member of the Shivrati royal family of Udaipur and an avid international polo player is one of the few Indians who, along with wife Shelja, has been invited to Prince William’s wedding. He says, “I have known William for the past five-six years, he is a polo buddy who is also involved with the charity I run, while Kate, thanks to Will, has recently started supporting my cause – the Shivrati trust”.
Singh reveals that he received his invite a few weeks ago. He spills the beans about the events that have been planned – the day before the wedding, a dinner gathering of friends and family is to take place. The dinner will be hosted by Lady Hansen, a relative of William. The reception, to be hosted by Prince Harry, is also a ceremony that Singh has been invited to. He says, “Will is such a modest guy. He is very straightforward and makes it a point not to let anyone feel uncomfortable.” And what about Kate, we ask. He replies, “Katherine is bubbly, easy going and involved in William’s activities. She often comes to watch him play polo.”
Speaking of polo, one of Singh’s fondest memories of William has to do with the game. He recalls, “Once, I was the referee of the match, and I I called out one of William’s shots as a foul. William was upset and naturally, he objected. I told him that a foul is a foul, and that a he can be a prince off the ground, but not on the ground. William laughed heartily at that, and agreed.”
About his gift to the couple, he says, “I’m gifting them a miniature ragmala painting from the 18th century, it’s very traditional to Udaipur and especially to my family. Along with that, I will give them a little sketch that the children from my trust have made about the Royal Wedding.”
